Informing and engaging employees for reaching new goals

To display statistics and information regarding the production level of every production line at the head of the line itself - To distribute information within the factories, to provide employees with personal statistics so that they may be easily compared in real-time to the set quotas

More than a dozen 46” TFT displays installed, at the beginning of the production lines of three factories, and a central management software (Scenario) make it possible to distribute dynamic multimedia contents, thanks to schedules that can be common to multiple devices or diversified for each panel. The particular strength and durability of the devices, even in hostile environments, along with their ability to operate continuously (24 hours a day, seven days a week) makes them suitable to be used in a factory that assembles and tests motor vehicles.

  • Durability of the devices, with multilayered protective glass
  • Resistance to dust and air dross
  • Unified management of factories, even when distant
Case Study Piaggio

Over 50 years in the field of two-wheelers has allowed the Piaggio brand to gain a vast share of the motorcycle and scooter market. Piaggio has also given much attention to increasing efficiency of its production and assembly processes.

On the assembly lines, workers are constantly encouraged to reach ever higher standards of efficiency and quality: their work is parameterized and continuously compared with the established goals.

In the factory in Pontedera, department managers realized they had the need to make this data known to the workers themselves, to inform them and allow them to be part of the common effort for improvements and efficiency. To this end, the company decided to install commercial displays, connected to and managed by a computer, for showing simple graphical presentations and statistical reports.

This choice required that certain steps be taken to ensure security of the system and prevent failures and accidental shutdowns (a solution was necessary for the connection cables and for the PC’s located in certain protected areas). However, system crashes were frequent and access to PCs was inconvenient. Furthermore, the monitors proved to be inadequate for continuous use, and for an environment as difficult as a production factory, with consequent malfunctions and physical damage to the devices, as well as security risks to personnel.

Although the adopted solution had strong limitations, the idea proved to be valid so much that Piaggio decided to search for a new, professional digital signage solution.

Solari’s solution is composed of a dozen 46” TFP Line displays, connected via Ethernet to the central server upon which resides Scenario, a powerful tool for managing and monitoring the contents and schedules shown on the displays.

Thanks to the system architecture, it is possible to prepare and plan multimedia contents to be shown, even for long periods of time, while simultaneously and automatically updating a part of the content. This may be useful, for example, for displaying production data provided by other management systems.

The installed screens, one per each production line, are suitable for any kind of environment and atmospheric reagent, ensuring the top operative reliability, far higher than the average consumer solutions: the external casing is sealed, not to let the air dross compromise internal components; the cooling system, thereby, is equipped with external heat sinks, to let exceeding heat out without letting air pass inside the structure.

Such features are fundamental in a department where engines and vehicles are tested, as long as the air is tainted with many kinds of aggressive reagents and impurities. Furthermore, the risk of accidental hits is a constant, because of the karts and forklifts moving in the aisles: for this reason, the devices are equipped with a double-layer protective glass.

This installation demonstrated that the professional Digital Signage is a concrete answer for real problems that are generated by new ideas and ventures, aiming to the everyday pursue of excellence.
